Maspalomas24h Wednesday, February 04, 2026

The company, the only supermarket chain with a stand at the event, showcased its progress in digitalization and logistics in the supply network on the first day.

SPAR Gran Canaria is participating in the first edition of the Canary Islands Logistics Innovation Fair (FILCA), which will be held on February 4th and 5th at the Agüimes Exhibition Centre. The company is the only supermarket chain with an exhibitor at this event, which brings together professionals and companies linked to logistics, transport, warehousing, automation, industrial machinery, and digital transformation.

SPAR Gran Canaria's participation reflects its interest in sharing its logistics model and the advancements it has made in recent years in the digitalization of its supply chain. Representatives from the Procurement, New Projects, Logistics, and Supply Chain departments, along with SPAR Gran Canaria's president, Ángel Medina, and general manager, Dunia Pérez, attended the first day of this professional event.

FILCA offers a meeting place for the exchange of knowledge, the presentation of technological solutions, and networking between companies and professionals in the sector. In this context, the presence of SPAR Gran Canaria allows for an exploration of the role of digitalization, automation, and sustainability in the evolution of logistics processes in the Canary Islands.

Warehouse and supply management

In the area of warehouse management, SPAR Gran Canaria has implemented the SISLOG system in its new refrigerated and frozen goods platform over the past year. This solution allows for the coordination of order preparation through voice picking and multi-order processing, optimizes routes, manages simultaneous operations in different cold storage rooms, and maintains precise control of stock, locations, and processes associated with fresh and frozen products.

With the aim of optimizing service quality control in its stores, SPAR Gran Canaria has implemented a vision-based picking control system. This technology facilitates automated visual verification of the order preparation process, supported by video evidence.

In turn, this tool guarantees greater traceability, a reduction in errors and claims, thanks to its integration with the Warehouse Management System (WMS), making it a stable platform designed to increase efficiency and quality control in all warehouses of the chain.

In parallel, the company is in the process of implementing the RELEX Solutions platform, designed to comprehensively optimize demand planning, forecasting, replenishment, and the management of prices and promotions. The integration of this tool allows for the coordination of sales and logistics information in a single environment, supported by artificial intelligence and machine learning models, and incorporates automated replenishment, specific modules for fresh produce, and a substantial improvement in the quality of master data.

It also facilitates smarter coordination with suppliers, helping to reduce waste and strengthen product availability in stores, resulting in a more efficient, profitable and predictable supply chain.

The Canary Islands supermarket chain has launched a pilot program using AI-powered cameras to further enhance in-store restocking. This system provides real-time visibility of shelf space and detects stockouts, facing errors, and empty shelves, helping to reduce incidents and losses, improve restocking accuracy, and optimize synchronization between stores and logistics.

These technological solutions are complemented by various projects related to logistics sustainability and efficient transport. Among them, SPAR Gran Canaria has incorporated systems to reduce plastic use in its logistics operations by using doors on roll containers, has made progress in reusing packaging in categories such as meat, fruit, and vegetables, and has optimized route planning through the UNIGIS TMS system to reduce travel distances and the carbon footprint associated with transport. The company is also working on incorporating renewable energy into its logistics facilities and on the complete digitalization and traceability of its processes to minimize its environmental impact.

Currently, SPAR Gran Canaria manages around 12 million boxes annually from its logistics centers, serving all 21 municipalities on the island. To achieve this, it uses integrated supply, storage, and distribution systems which, combined with effective route and transport management, ensure frequent and efficient service.
