The Gran Canaria Island Council acknowledges the role of the Air Force in Maspalomas

The Gran Canaria Island Council has approved the list of 19 professionals and organizations that will receive the island's Honors and Distinctions this year. This ceremony, which coincides with the 113th anniversary of the island corporation's founding in 2026, seeks to recognize those who have contributed to the well-being and social, cultural, and economic development of Canarian society. The most prominent recipient in the south of the island is the Air Force and Space Corps in Maspalomas.

The official ceremony, to be held on March 13th at the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium, highlights initiatives that contrast with the "grant management" model we have previously analyzed. Among the award recipients, several from southern Gran Canaria stand out: the Can de las Ciencias (Science Award) has been given to the Canary Islands Space Center (INTA), underscoring the importance of high-level research in the islands. The Roque Nublo de Gran Canaria Award this year recognizes the Federation of Hospitality and Tourism Businesses (FEHT) and The North Face Transgrancanaria sporting event. The La Salle Association of Agüimes is also recognized for its commitment to promoting local customs and maintaining traditions such as the Auto de los Reyes Magos (Three Kings' Play).

This symbiosis between premium tourism and technological sovereignty has created a value bubble that transcends real estate trends. While other destinations face uncontrolled saturation, the Montaña Blanca area benefits from a "protected density" mandated by technical necessity. The legal protection of the radio spectrum not only safeguards satellite communications but also acts as an invisible shield against overdevelopment, ensuring that the unobstructed views and low density of San Agustín and Meloneras are not a temporary privilege but a structural feature protected by international agreements of the ESA.

Under this sky, the historical legacy of the space race translates today into a trusted asset for foreign capital. The station's connectivity with solar system exploration missions and the monitoring of space debris serve as a constant reminder that this corner of Gran Canaria is an enclave of global importance. For the owner of a villa in these hills, the proximity of the ESTRACK network is proof that they live in a territory where order, security, and cutting-edge technology prevail; an ecosystem where science and luxury converge to ensure that real estate investment is as solid and predictable as the trajectory of an orbiting satellite.
