Arrested for drug dealing in southeast Gran Canaria

Gara Hernández - M24h Tuesday, February 10, 2026

The Public Prosecutor's Office has requested that AB, a Moroccan man intercepted in late 2024 with various narcotics in the commercial center of Vecindario, be brought to trial before the Provincial Court of Las Palmas. The prosecution is seeking a four-year prison sentence and a fine of €1.737 for the defendant for a crime against public health, after he was caught by the Civil Guard in a public place.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of December 21st, when a public safety patrol was monitoring Avenida de Canarias. Near number 457, the accused, upon noticing the officers, made a sudden turn and threw two black bags into a trash container. After being immediately identified, the officers recovered the bags, which contained sixteen packets of cocaine and nine pieces of hashish resin, as well as a 50-euro note and two 20-euro notes.

Subsequent laboratory tests confirmed the purity of the substances: the 5,05 grams of cocaine had a purity level of 83,56%, while the hashish weighed 41,39 grams. The total street value of the drugs was estimated at €579. According to the prosecutor's statement, the defendant was carrying these substances with the clear intention of selling them for profit, thereby endangering public health.

Since there are no circumstances that modify his criminal responsibility, the prosecution is requesting, in addition to the prison sentence, special disqualification from the right to passive suffrage and the confiscation of the 90 euros seized. The proceedings are now awaiting the Provincial Court's scheduling of the oral hearing, where the defendant's criminal future will be decided.
