The legal news in southern Gran Canaria this February 2026 once again focuses on Mogán, although this time far removed from urban planning offices or investment figures. The First Section of the Provincial Court of Las Palmas is preparing to try a case that is chilling in its coldness: the Public Prosecutor is requesting a six-year prison sentence for WRT, accused of sexually assaulting a woman while she slept in her own home.
The events date back to the early morning of December 19, 2020. According to the preliminary conclusions, the accused took advantage of the victim, LRC, being asleep to enter her room and penetrate her without her consent. The prosecution's account is graphic; it details that even when the woman awoke and demanded he stop, the defendant ignored her pleas and continued the assault. The prosecutor classifies this episode of violence as a crime of sexual abuse with penetration, under the wording of the Penal Code in force at the time.
But the accusation doesn't stop there. In addition to the trauma of the assault, there is a component of material opportunism. The prosecutor maintains that, in the hours following the incident, WRT also searched the woman's belongings to steal a pair of Apple wireless headphones, valued at 90 euros. This "intent to illicitly enrich himself," as defined by the Public Prosecutor's Office, adds a minor theft charge to the list of offenses, demonstrating a complete disregard for the victim's safety and property.
The criminal charges sought by the prosecution are substantial. In addition to six years in prison, they are requesting a restraining order of 500 meters and a ban on communicating with the victim for eight years, plus an identical period of supervised release upon his release. On the financial front, the claim amounts to €40.090: €90 to replace the stolen items and €40.000 as necessary, though always insufficient, compensation for the emotional distress caused that December night in Mogán.
