Green light for the modernization of the Golf Course: Maspalomas begins its urban requalification

The iconic Maspalomas Golf Course area is preparing for a complete transformation. The Environmental Assessment Commission of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council has issued a favorable report for the Urban Environment Action Program (PAMU), promoted by Maspalomas Golf, SA, a company owned by the Bravo de Laguna family and Lopesan. This agreement, officially published this Friday, confirms that the plan to renovate the resort will not generate significant environmental impacts, allowing progress to be made in the redevelopment of land that, despite its tourist origins, currently suffers from significant infrastructure deficiencies.

The project's central focus is improving the area's tourism competitiveness and providing essential services that are currently lacking. Among the planned actions are the renovation and construction of sidewalks throughout the road network, the installation of a new LED street lighting system, and the creation of a municipal urban park. The environmental authority has concluded that, given the area's significant transformation by human activity and its proximity to protected spaces without encroaching upon them, the works are compatible with environmental sustainability.

However, the administrative process has revealed certain technical obstacles. The Ministry of Defense has conditioned its approval on air safety; since the affected area is subject to aeronautical easements, any installation of cranes, poles, or new construction will require prior authorization from the military. Furthermore, the General Directorate of Public Health was unable to issue its report due to technical difficulties accessing digital documentation, an issue that the secretary of the environmental body described as isolated, as the other administrations consulted, such as the municipalities of Mogán and Santa Lucía, reported no problems.

The public consultation phase has also highlighted the interest this plan is generating among local property owners and businesses. Objections have been registered from entities such as Patriferma, Sunflor (Cordial), Somotur, professionals like Salvador Miranda, and the Parque Golf homeowners' association itself, as well as Maspalomas Golf, SA. However, the municipal secretary, Mateo Pérez Ojeda, clarified that these complaints are not environmental in nature, but rather pertain to urban planning issues. Therefore, they have been referred to the developer for review outside the scope of this commission. With this step, the south of the island unlocks a strategic investment to raise the quality standard of one of its most exclusive residential developments.
