German dynamic package specialist Vtours has thrown down a strategic gauntlet to travel agencies in its source market: a familiarization trip to Gran Canaria that is shaping up to be the last big move by the Aschaffenburg firm before integrating into the structure of the giant Dertour.
For a fee of 329 euros, the tour operator is inviting agents to a technical and cultural immersion on the island between March 10 and 14, using the Frankfurt and Düsseldorf air hubs via TUI Fly. But beneath the veneer of sunsets in Puerto de Mogán and the obligatory inspection of the hotel facilities lies a reality of corporate consolidation: Vtours is about to change hands.
The news of this familiarization trip comes just a week after the Dertour Group confirmed its acquisition of the Hotelplan Group—owner of Vtours—from the Swiss company Migros. This transaction, pending approval from competition authorities, will transform the landscape of European tour operators. For Vtours, maintaining a strong promotional presence in Gran Canaria is not only a matter of immediate sales, but also a statement of value to its future owners.
For hoteliers in the south of the island, this move is a necessary sign of continuity. In a sector that is cautiously absorbing brand acquisitions, Vtours' continued commitment to the Canary Islands as the flagship of its promotional program suggests that the destination maintains its status as a "safe haven" within Dertour's new portfolio. Travel agencies have until February 26th to secure their spots on a trip that, beyond leisure, will serve to test the strength of one of the most solid links between German tourists and the Gran Canaria coast, amidst a period of corporate consolidation. Gran Canaria Tourism aims to support this initiative to offer an experience that transcends the traditional sun and sand image and showcases the natural, cultural, and gastronomic richness of the island's south. The response from this type of group has always been highly positive.
