From Maspalomas to Sangué: The great mission of the Air Force and Space in Senegal

The solidarity of the Canary Islands has once again crossed the Atlantic to transform the reality of one of the most vulnerable areas of West Africa. In the rural community of Sangué, a municipality located in the Thiès region, about 80 kilometers from the Senegalese capital, more than 360 children have begun to exercise their fundamental right to education thanks to an unexpected ally: a vehicle donated from Gran Canaria.

This small bus, which has overcome logistical challenges between the archipelago and the mainland, is the result of a strategic alliance between the Department of International Solidarity of the Gran Canaria Island Council and the Rotary Club of Maspalomas. The vehicle has been specifically designated for the Mère Paule Lapique school, an institution that strives to provide education to children in an area where access to classrooms is not always guaranteed due to vast distances and unreliable transportation.

The key figure in this humanitarian aid operation has been the mediation of Air Force and Space Colonel J. Álvaro M.-Villalobos C. This officer, who currently serves as head of the INTA Space Center in the Canary Islands, was the necessary link to coordinate the transport and delivery of the vehicle. His work underscores the importance of humanitarian diplomacy and collaboration between civilian and military institutions to ensure that aid reaches, quite literally, the last mile in hard-to-reach areas.

For the children of Sangué, this bus is not just a means of transportation; it's a tool for social equity. In a region where many children are forced to drop out of school because they can't reach educational centers, this vehicle ensures that education ceases to be a privilege for the few and becomes an everyday reality. The Canary Islands' cooperation efforts from Maspalomas continue to be a driving force for change in the neighboring country.
