San Bartolomé de Tirajana surprised by the strongest gusts of wind recorded in its recent history

San Bartolomé de Tirajana experienced one of its most intense weather events in recent memory on Friday, February 27, 2026. The severe atmospheric instability led to numerous incidents, forcing the activation of the Municipal Emergency Plan and the deployment of a large-scale security operation.

The City Council reported that, from midnight through the morning, they responded to over a hundred calls, primarily related to the wind, which reached gusts of nearly 70 kilometers per hour in some parts of the municipality. The interventions focused on removing dislodged building elements, uprooted palm trees and other large trees, problems with streetlights, and obstacles in the road. There were also occasional power outages and damage to infrastructure exposed to the wind.

Among the most significant incidents were several at accommodation establishments, where a falling palm tree resulted in minor injuries. Despite the intensity of the storm, no serious injuries were reported.

To address the situation, the City Council mobilized more than two hundred personnel, including local police, firefighters, Civil Protection, and staff from municipal services such as cleaning, parks and gardens, and roads and works. Outdoor activities planned for the weekend were suspended, sports facilities and parks were closed, and preventative measures were implemented on the beaches. Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez highlighted the coordination of municipal services and the rapid response to this exceptional weather event.
