The island of Gran Canaria has taken a strategic step in its international accessibility roadmap. Planning for the summer of 2026 and the 2026/2027 season already has specific names in mind. Norwegian will lead the expansion in the Scandinavian market with the addition of Billund (Denmark), the reopening of the route to Bergen, and the inclusion of Stavanger in its network. In the British market, according to the Gran Canaria Tourist Board, Jet2 will strengthen its operations by adding London-Gatwick as a new direct connection. Currently, the island maintains direct connections to 160 airports in 30 countries, operated by 60 different airlines.

The French market will continue to gain importance thanks to Volotea, which has confirmed the addition of Lille to its network of destinations to the island, also ensuring the continuation of flights to Toulouse and Marseille for the coming year. With these actions, Gran Canaria Tourism aims not only to increase the number of visitors, but also to reduce the seasonality of the destination and improve the profile of tourists visiting the island.

Gran Canaria is consolidating its existing routes and exploring new opportunities with airlines such as Wizz Air, Ryanair, easyJet, Lufthansa, and Air France, in a setting that included representatives from 175 airports and 75 airlines. Gran Canaria Airport has reaffirmed its position as a leading Atlantic hub, handling 15,82 million passengers and managing 142.884 flights. This logistical strength allowed the airport to close last year with 4,85 million tourists, representing a 3% increase compared to 2024, demonstrating unprecedented market diversification.

Connectivity this winter season is already reflecting the results of this planning. Among the highlights is Wizz Air's new direct route from Wroclaw, operational since December 5th, which strengthens its presence in Central Europe. In the domestic market, Binter has enhanced connectivity within the Iberian Peninsula with its new route to Seville, while in the French market, Transavia France has restored its strategic connection to Bordeaux with a weekly flight.

EasyJet has taken a significant leap forward by adding four new routes from Paris, Lyon, Nantes, and Milan, dramatically increasing seat capacity for winter 2025/2026. This expansion is further bolstered by airBaltic's connection to Slovenia and Molde, Norway, and ITA Airways' new weekly charter service from Rome-Fiumicino, solidifying Gran Canaria's position in southern Europe.
