Alejandro Marichal: “This agreement reinforces the work we are doing to improve the condition of our neighborhoods, while expanding cleaning teams and generating job opportunities for people in the municipality.”

Ruymán Cardoso: “The teams have already worked in Sonnenland, San Fernando, El Pajar, Castillo del Romeral and Juan Grande, addressing residents' demands and improving spaces that needed maintenance work”

The first actions of the socio-environmental project promoted by the Department of Cleaning and Waste Collection of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council have made it possible to remove 23 tons of plant waste, equivalent to 156 cubic meters, after intervening in nine points of the municipality with cleaning, pruning and tidying of green spaces.

The actions have been carried out in different locations in the municipality, including Los Olivos (El Tablero), Sonnenland, San Fernando, El Pajar, Castillo del Romeral, Juan Grande and El Rodeo, as well as the area around the road that connects El Tablero with Montaña La Data.

This project, developed in collaboration with the Foresta Foundation, has also allowed the hiring of 20 unemployed people from the municipality, who have been working since December 26, 2025 in cleaning, maintenance and conservation of green areas, paths and natural spaces.

The initiative has an investment of 1.166.708 euros and will run until June 2027. Twenty people from the municipality have been hired for its development, including a project director, an administrative assistant, two foremen, two forestry specialists, and fourteen operators who are already carrying out environmental improvement work in various public spaces.

The project also includes a training component aimed at improving the professional qualifications of the participants. During its implementation, five training courses are planned, two of which have already been completed: two specialized 50-hour courses focused on occupational risk prevention in gardening and the calculation and design of irrigation systems.

The Councillor for Cleaning and Waste Collection, Ruymán Cardoso, explained that these actions allow for increased maintenance in areas that required improvement work. “The crews are working in areas that are part of the daily life of our neighborhoods and that needed cleaning, pruning, and tidying up to restore their condition,” he noted.

For his part, First Deputy Mayor Alejandro Marichal emphasized that the initiative improves municipal services while also creating job opportunities in the municipality. “This agreement strengthens the work we are doing to improve the condition of our neighborhoods. We are expanding our cleaning teams and, at the same time, generating employment opportunities for residents of the municipality,” he stated.

This project complements other initiatives undertaken by the Department of Cleaning to strengthen and modernize the service during this legislative term. These include the new selective waste collection contract awarded to Ayagaures Medioambiente SLU, with an investment of nearly €4,9 million until 2028, the installation of 560 new containers, and the addition of a renewed fleet that will increase collection capacity. These measures are further complemented by the upcoming installation of 41 solar-powered self-compacting waste bins along the coastline and an investment of over €300.000 earmarked for improving waste collection points and facilities in various neighborhoods throughout the municipality.
