The San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, the economic and tourist hub of Gran Canaria, has taken a decisive step to stabilize its workforce and modernize its municipal services. The Councilor for Human Resources, María Elena Álamo, has ratified the resolution of March 12, 2026, approving the Public Employment Offer (OEP) for the current year, as published in the Official Gazette of the Province on Monday, March 16.
The Public Employment Offer for 2026 includes a total of 85 positions, distributed in a structure that prioritizes both strengthening essential services and maintaining the stability of the current workforce. Twenty-five positions are available for career civil servants, broken down into 16 open positions—led by 11 vacancies for Local Police officers and senior technicians such as engineers and geographers—and 9 internal promotion positions for security management roles. Meanwhile, the Contractual Staff has 60 vacancies, with 6 open positions including social and cultural profiles, and a substantial number of 54 internal promotion positions, notably 36 administrative positions and various trades officers, thus consolidating an ambitious professional development plan within the city council.
This involves the creation of 16 security and technical services positions. The open competition for career civil servants reveals the city council's investment priorities. Security is a central focus, with 11 positions for Local Police Officers (C1), in addition to a Civil Protection Coordinator position.
At the technical and urban planning level, the City Council is seeking to recruit highly qualified professionals, including a Geographer, an Engineer (both from Group A1), and a Management Technician (A2). This focus on technical talent suggests a desire to strengthen the urban planning and engineering departments in a municipality facing significant tourism and infrastructure demands.
One of the most significant aspects of this 2026 Public Employment Offer (OEP) is the amount allocated to internal promotions, especially among permanent staff. The resolution includes the conversion of 36 Administrative (C1) positions, representing a process of regularization and mass promotion within the city council's bureaucratic structure.
This internal promotion process also extends to manual trades and maintenance services, with positions for bricklayers, electricians, drivers, and general tradespeople, adding 15 more vacancies in this category. For the command staff of emergency services, positions have been created for Police Inspector and Sub-Inspector, as well as a Fire Department Sub-Officer.
In the area of open-competition staff, the creation of the position of Director of the School of Music (A2) stands out, a move that underscores the commitment of the department headed by Álamo Vega to cultural services. Likewise, the social safety net is strengthened with the addition of three Social Workers, a long-standing demand to address the demographic realities of the island's south.
The resolution has already been forwarded to the Local Administration Service of the Canary Islands Government and the Government Sub-delegation for review. With this measure, San Bartolomé de Tirajana aims to end 2026 with a more robust administrative structure, reducing temporary staff and ensuring that public services are supported by career civil servants and permanent employees. Note for applicants: The General and Specific Rules governing each of these calls for applications will be published shortly on the municipal website and the Notice Board, marking the formal start of the application period.
