A new traffic accident in southern Gran Canaria has triggered a large-scale emergency response on one of the island's main roads. The injured man, 67, had to be airlifted to a hospital after suffering severe multiple injuries.

The incident occurred at 10:20 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, on the GC-1 highway, just outside Arguineguín, in the municipality of Mogán. The Canary Islands Government's Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES) 1-1-2 received an alert requesting medical assistance for a cyclist who had been injured after being hit by a vehicle on that road.

The Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) assisted a 67-year-old man with severe multiple injuries. After being stabilized at the scene of the accident, he was airlifted by helicopter to the University Hospital of Gran Canaria due to the severity of his injuries.

Multiple emergency resources were involved in the operation, including a basic life support ambulance, a medical ambulance, and a medical helicopter from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), along with personnel from the Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium, the Civil Guard, the Local Police, Civil Protection, and road maintenance service staff. The police forces were responsible for carrying out the corresponding investigations to clarify the circumstances of the accident.
