The Public Prosecutor's Office has submitted a request to the Provincial Court of Las Palmas to open a trial against three individuals intercepted in southern Gran Canaria with a stash of narcotics valued at nearly €18.000. The defendants, identified as IBL, DDG, and ARP, were apprehended by the Santa Lucía de Tirajana Local Police—part of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana judicial district—during a routine check in the Plaza Cerruda parking lot. The operation, carried out on April 25, 2024, resulted in the seizure of 2.481 grams of cannabis resin hidden in the vehicle in which the defendants were traveling.
The police search not only revealed the presence of 25 slabs of hashish, with an estimated market value of €16.672, but also led to the seizure of significant sums of cash in small denominations. At the time of the arrest, officers found €1.020 in IBL's possession and €671 in DDG's. Subsequently, after a search at the police station, additional packages were found: 19,48 grams of high-purity cocaine (81,2%) hidden among DDG's belongings and a smaller quantity of cannabis resin carried by IBL.
The Public Prosecutor's Office maintains that all the substances, with a combined value of €17.960,5, were intended for illicit sale for financial gain, thus endangering public health. The acts have been classified as a crime against public health in the form of substances that cause serious harm to health. It should be noted that, of the three defendants, only DDG has a prior criminal record, although this is not considered for the purposes of recidivism in this case.
The prosecution is seeking a four-year prison sentence and a €23.880 fine for each of the defendants, in addition to disqualification from holding public office for the duration of their sentence. The Public Prosecutor's Office has also requested the seizure and destruction of the confiscated drugs, as well as the confiscation of the cash, the origin of which is directly linked to the criminal activity. The proceedings now await trial before the Provincial Court to determine the criminal liability of the perpetrators.
