The exhibition will be open until Wednesday, April 15, on the roof of the Faro de Maspalomas Parking lot.
A total of 52 artisans from 15 municipalities on the island are participating in this edition of the fair, which is consolidating itself as a showcase of the island's identity and culture.
The 15th Gran Canaria Spring South Craft Fair kicked off today on the rooftop of the Maspalomas Lighthouse Parking Garage, located on Avenida Cristóbal Colón. In this new, easily accessible location, 52 artisans from 15 municipalities across the island "will not only exhibit, but also sell products deeply rooted in our identity and culture," stated Minerva Alonso, Councilor for Economic Development, Industry, Commerce, and Crafts.
The councilor emphasized the fair's purpose as a meeting point between the island's artisans and the thousands of tourists who visit southern Gran Canaria each spring, where artisans will showcase their products and techniques. She added that it is also open "to the residents of Gran Canaria who wish to visit the south of the island until April 15th."
Among the 52 artisans who will bring the exhibition stands to life, two new additions stand out: Paola Farina and Clara Isabel González, who, for the first time, are presenting their crochet and recycled material creations to the public within the framework of this fair.
The fair maintains its character as a showcase where tradition and artisanal innovation share the spotlight. Visitors will find original, high-quality pieces, all handcrafted by specialists in 20 different crafts, three of which are traditional. Basket weaving, blacksmithing, forging, and locksmithing, as well as cigar making, will coexist with more modern and contemporary crafts, among which jewelry is the most represented, followed by ceramics, macramé, fashion, and recycled materials. The stalls also feature pottery, basketry, cutlery, forging, wool spinning, soap making, toys, patchwork, and dolls.
The Gran Canaria Primavera Sur Craft Fair will once again bring together artisans from across the island: Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is the most represented municipality this year, followed by Agüimes and Telde. Santa Lucía de Tirajana, San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Valsequillo, Teror, Mogán, Firgas, Agaete, San Mateo, Santa Brígida, Ingenio, Gáldar, and Arucas complete the list of participating towns.
The stalls will remain open from 10:00 a.m. to 19:00 p.m. until Wednesday, April 15. The exhibition of handcrafted items will be enhanced during those days with a program of musical performances, beginning on Thursday, April 9, at 17:00 p.m. with a recital by international soloist Ana García. On Friday, April 10, at the same time, Asentaos y Tumbaos will take the stage, and on Saturday, April 11, at 12:00 p.m., La Musicleta will perform. On Sunday, April 12, Hits2Rock will play, and on Tuesday, April 14, Los del Son will take the stage, both concerts also at 17:00 p.m.
Promoted and financed by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, through the Fund for Ethnography and the Development of Canarian Crafts (Fedac), an organization attached to the Ministry of Economic Development, Industry, Trade and Crafts, the Primavera Sur Crafts Fair is organized by Infecar, Feria de Gran Canaria, with the collaboration of the City Council of San Bartolomé de Tirajana.
