Red Eléctrica launches a €4 million substation in Mogán

Gara Hernández - M24h Monday, April 13, 2026

The Government of the Canary Islands, through its Directorate General of Energy, has opened two key projects to public consultation for strengthening the electricity grid in the municipality of Mogán, Gran Canaria. These projects, promoted by Red Eléctrica de España, SAU, will represent a combined investment of over €4,05 million. The majority of the budget will be allocated to the construction of the "New Mogán 66 kV Substation."

Additionally, a second project has been planned to guarantee the operation and supply of the auxiliary services plant, with a budget of €143.165,00. This includes the conversion of overhead and underground medium-voltage supports, the creation of an underground line, and a private delivery and transformation center for the substation's auxiliary services.

Both projects are currently in the application phase for Administrative Authorization, Environmental Impact Statement, and Declaration of Public Utility. This last condition is of particular relevance to the landowners in the area, as it implies the need to occupy properties or acquire rights through urgent occupation.

The announcements detail a list of affected properties and rights, including agricultural plots (arable, irrigated, and pastureland) belonging to entities such as Edistribución Redes Digitales, SLU and various heirs of the Bravo de Laguna family. The occupations range from easements to full ownership rights for the construction of the substation and its technical infrastructure.
The public has a period of thirty working days (starting the day after the publication of the notices in April 2026) to examine files AT25/001 and AT25/003. The documentation can be consulted physically at the offices of the Regional Ministry in Las Palmas (by appointment) or at the Mogán Town Hall.
