The Department of Culture has launched an extensive program to promote reading, featuring theater, film, a book fair, storytelling, and crafts at cultural centers, as well as a reading mentorship program in educational centers.
San Bartolomé de Tirajana celebrates the 2026 Book Day with an extensive program of activities to promote reading, which will take place during this month of April and next month of May in the cultural centers and educational centers of the municipality.
The program, organized by the Department of Culture, headed by Elena Álamo Vega and Esther Delgado Sánchez, kicked off last Wednesday at the Carmelo Pérez Rodríguez Cultural Center in El Tablero with the activity "Stories and Wines," led by storyteller María Buenadicha. Dedicated to a literary and wine tasting experience, this same session will take place next Tuesday, the 21st, at the Maspalomas Cultural Center, on the 29th at the Castillo del Romeral Cultural Center, and on May 5th at the Pancho Guerra Cultural Center in Tunte.
Another cultural offering included in the Book Day program is storytelling with crafts, sessions that began last Tuesday at the Juan Grande Cultural Center and will also take place next Tuesday in San Fernando de Maspalomas, on Wednesday the 22nd in Aldea Blanca, in El Pajar on Thursday the 23rd, in Tunte on Tuesday the 28th, on Wednesday the 29th in El Tablero, at the Fataga Intergenerational Center on Thursday the 30th and on May 5th in Castillo del Romeral.
Alongside these activities, the reading sponsorships are also being promoted with remarkable success in this edition, in which 12 educational centers of the municipality are participating, specifically the CEIP Juan Grande, Aldea Blanca, El Matorral, Cercados de Espino, Santa Águeda, El Tablero, Pepe Monagas, San Fernando, the CEOs Pancho Guerra de Castillo del Romeral and Tunte, and the Arenas Almas and Arenas Sur schools.

The program also includes theatrical sessions such as those offered by the adult classroom of the Municipal School of Theatre this Thursday 16 and next Thursday 23 at the Maspalomas Cultural Centre, at 19:00 pm, where they will perform 'You make me Lorca. Yerma, Rosita and Federico', and the 'Sound Fiction The Little Prince', respectively.
In addition to the traditional Book FairThe event, which will be held on Friday, April 24th in Plaza del Camellero with bookstore stalls and the presence of authors, as well as craft workshops and storytelling, will be held on Wednesday the 22nd at the Maspalomas Cultural Center, with a film screening of 'The Film Teller', as part of the Butaca 24 Cinema program.
