Alejandro Marichal: “These types of initiatives offer spaces where our seniors can enjoy themselves, socialize, and stay active, because that is also quality of life.”
Francis Candil: “San Bartolomé de Tirajana is demonstrating that it is possible to promote useful and accessible policies for older people”
San Bartolomé de Tirajana celebrated the +60 Afternoon Event, an initiative that transformed Parque Sur into a space for meeting, music, and socializing for the municipality's senior citizens. Nearly 200 attendees participated in an event that combined leisure, participation, and well-being in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

The day unfolded with a program designed for enjoyment and sharing. Performances by Dani Calero and the group Los 600 provided the soundtrack to the afternoon, which also featured a photo booth with fun props—one of the most popular spots—and a meeting area with snacks and free wine that encouraged conversation and interaction among attendees.
The First Deputy Mayor, Alejandro Marichal, emphasized that “these types of initiatives are underway to place our senior citizens at the heart of the municipality's social life. We want to offer spaces where they can enjoy themselves, socialize, and stay active, because that, too, contributes to quality of life.”
For his part, the Deputy Minister of Social Policies of the Canary Islands Government, Francis Candil, emphasized that “these gatherings promote active aging, combating unwanted loneliness and creating real spaces for social interaction. San Bartolomé de Tirajana is demonstrating that it is possible to implement effective and accessible policies for older adults.”
The event was also attended by the Director General of the Mayor, Verónica Meseger, and Dimas Sarmiento, who accompanied the participants throughout the day.
The "Tardeo +60" event was created with the intention of becoming a regular occurrence, responding to a growing demand for leisure spaces adapted to older adults. The high level of participation and the positive atmosphere have solidified this initiative as a permanent fixture on the city's calendar.
