The new leadership of the Fire and Rescue Service took office this Thursday. The fire chief maintains that this strategic decision enhances the professionalism of the department.

The San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council has taken a key step in consolidating its emergency system with the swearing-in and appointment, for the first time in the history of the service, of seven corporals as career civil servants of the Fire and Rescue Service (SEIS).

This milestone marks a decisive step forward in the structuring of the fire department, strengthening the chain of command and consolidating a more professional and efficient organizational model, adapted to the reality of the municipality.

The new corporals, representing different stages within the service, combine experience and renewal. They are Javier Armas Armas, who joined in 1997; Salvador Cabrera Sosa, Óscar Ramírez Quintana, and Abrahám Vera Rodríguez, who joined in 2007; and Jorge Velasco Peredo, Luis Miguel González Quevedo, and Ramón Javier Rivero Artiles, who joined the force in 2017.

San Bartolomé de Tirajana presents a unique operational complexity, encompassing approximately one-fifth of the island of Gran Canaria and concentrating one of Spain's main tourist destinations. This entails high demands on emergency management and a wide variety of risks. In this context, the creation of this intermediate command structure will improve coordination of interventions, strengthen staff training, promote prevention, and optimize response capacity to any type of emergency.

According to the Chief of the Fire and Rescue Service, José Felipe Santana Rodríguez, the swearing-in of the seven corporals is “not only a professional recognition but also a strategic decision. We are building a better-prepared service, with a clear command structure that allows us to anticipate situations, intervene more effectively, and provide a response tailored to the realities of a complex and highly demanding municipality like ours.” He added that the combination of experience and new skills within this graduating class “strengthens our approach, which focuses on continuous training, prevention, and the constant improvement of the public service we provide.”

“With this addition, the City Council reaffirms its commitment to safety, moving towards a more solid, structured and prepared emergency model to face current and future challenges,” said the Councilor for the Security and Emergencies area, José Carlos Álamo.
