The south of Gran Canaria has always been the cradle of entrepreneurs. Throughout the 90s, several local TV channels were born in the south of the island. The arrival of DTT shut down business, generated mergers and disconnected the island's leading tourism region from its broadcasts of events and news. Left behind is OTM, Southern Local Television or TV Region, which were before businesses public communication services carried out by private companies, but always with "the seal of proximity" that characterizes local television stations. OTM was integrated into Gran Canaria TV and from there the Maspalomas audiovisual industry dispersed direct and indirect employment. The real estate crisis of 2008 took out the shareholders of the brick sector who had their money placed here.
