The San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council has completed one of the largest expansions of its public safety staff in the last decade. The Councilor for the Presidency and Human Resources Department, María Elena Álamo Vega, has signed the official resolutions formalizing the appointment of thirty new Local Police officers and eleven specialists from the Fire and Rescue Service (SEIS) as career civil servants. The official announcements, published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas, consolidate an increase in technical personnel dedicated to safeguarding the tourist area of Maspalomas, Meloneras, and Playa del Inglés in the face of population and visitor growth.
The addition of this security contingent responds to a structural demand from the business and hotel sector in the southern region of Gran Canaria, an area that required adjusting the ratio of officers per capita to meet destination prevention standards. The selection processes have passed the audit of the Municipal Intervention Department, validating the budgetary solvency of the positions assigned to professional subgroups C1 and C2 of the local special administration scale. This renewal of the public order forces provides greater operational stability to the brigades at the very start of the summer season.
The new members of the Local Police will officially take office on Thursday, May 28, 2026, in a ceremony held at the Town Hall of Tunte. The ceremony will include the oath or affirmation required by law before their deployment to units throughout the municipality. The list of new career police officers joining the municipal force is as follows: Airam González Quintana, Abel Almeida Déniz, José Manuel Pérez Batista, Marta María Santana Naranjo, Ina Ivanova Peychinova, Daniel Méndez Martel, Cristian Eligio Pérez Torres, David Jerónimo Robaina Ortega, Judit Alemán Sánchez, Víctor Mateo Cabrera Lorenzo, Juan Andrés Sánchez Hernández, Adrián Sánchez Guedes, Sandro Pérez Santana, Liria Raquel Pérez Sosa, Moisés Rodríguez García, Jonatan Sánchez Santana, Félix Daniel García Medina, and Eliezer del Cristo Martel Caballero.
The Fire and Rescue Service of the coastal municipality has added eleven career firefighters, an essential technical force for emergency and fire response in the midlands and tourist areas of the island's south. The selection panel confirmed the suitability of the candidates assigned to the vacant positions at the fire station. The official list of the new firefighters appointed by the town council includes Sara Audelia González Carracedo, Pedro José Montesdeoca Suárez, Javier Manuel Armas Rodríguez, Katia Santana Mejías, Miguel Ángel López Gil, Daniel Villar Troya, Jaime Abesinio Beltra García, Melina Griselda Alonso Aradas, Jonathan Herrera Gil, Juan Alberto Pérez Hernández, and Carmelo Javier Ramos Domínguez.
The administrative resolutions have been simultaneously sent to the Directorate General of the Civil Service of the Government of the Canary Islands and to the Government Sub-delegation in Las Palmas for the proper coordination of the archipelago's security forces. Those who believe their individual rights have been violated have a one-month period to file an optional appeal for reconsideration with the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council. Alternatively, they may file an administrative appeal with the Courts of Las Palmas within two months from the day following the official publication of these notices.
