Elementary tourist German classes will be held from July 6th to 9th, from 16:00 pm to 20:00 pm, at the Maspalomas Cultural Center
The Maspalomas Summer University has scheduled two courses to improve English in the tourism sector, aimed at staff working in hotels, restaurants and services, and another course in basic tourist German with basic lessons for practical communication during a trip to other countries.
The English course will be held from July 6th to 10th at the Maspalomas Cultural Center, from 09:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The course will offer 20 hours of training in the Professional English for Tourism Services category, Level B13. The training program will help students improve communication with customers, superiors and colleagues, as well as expand vocabulary related to the hospitality industry, reinforce grammar to express themselves clearly and precisely, and improve comprehension to understand telephone conversations, service orders and written documents.
The content of this course is designed to train Reception and Customer Service staff in welcoming guests, handling reservations, and providing helpful information; Restaurant and Bar staff, with practical classes on taking orders, describing dishes, recommending wines, and resolving common issues; and Housekeeping and Services staff, who will expand their vocabulary related to working in guest rooms, cleaning, maintenance, and additional services. Students will participate in practical lessons simulating emergency situations, learning to communicate more effectively, perform evacuation procedures, administer first aid, and understand safety measures.

The program for this course will offer basic lessons for practical communication while traveling, in airports or train stations, making reservations in hotels and restaurants and asking for directions, as well as vocabulary for ordering food and drink and understanding a menu in bars and restaurants, indicating customers' allergies, intolerances or special ingredients and asking for the bill.
In other sections, students will learn how to ask for help in emergency situations, how to understand basic medical expressions, how to contact police, hospitals and embassies, and how to assist customers with lost documents and belongings. They will also learn about basic customs in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
The Maspalomas Summer University is organized by the Department of Culture of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the Gran Canaria Island Council.
