The educational community of southern Gran Canaria is in the final stages of logistical preparation before the start of the biggest academic challenge of the year. The University Entrance Exam Organizing Committee (COPAU) has ratified the definitive schedule for the 2026 PAU ordinary session, setting the start of the exams for next Tuesday, June 2nd. This year's schedule maintains the division by high school track to optimize the flow of students at the examination centers. Students from high schools in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Mogán, and the rest of the southern region will have to travel to their assigned exam centers, with the island's operations concentrated in the La Granja Building, located next to the Maternal and Child Hospital in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
The schedule divides the core subjects across the first two days to avoid overcrowding the assessment areas. On Tuesday, June 2nd, the exams will begin with students in the Humanities and Social Sciences, Arts, and General Studies tracks, who are scheduled to arrive at 9:00 a.m. for the presentation and start of the Spanish Language and Literature II exam. On Wednesday, June 3rd, the same schedule will be followed for Science students. The second sessions of both mornings are reserved for Foreign Language II, while the afternoon sessions, scheduled for 16:00 p.m., will be for the History of Spain or History of Philosophy exams, distributed according to the student's specialization.
The complexity of the new exam format is concentrated in the final stretch of the week, where the subjects in the Optional Phase require meticulous coordination to avoid overlaps. Thursday, June 4th, is dedicated to high-impact technical disciplines such as Mathematics II and General Sciences in its first session, followed by Chemistry, Greek II, and Design at midday, and concluding the day with Physics and Geography in the afternoon. Friday, June 5th, will complete the mandatory assessment in the morning with subjects focused on business, arts, and technology, including Business and Business Model Design, Technical Drawing II, and Biology.
The management of subject scheduling conflicts moves the last reserve exams to Friday afternoon
The COPAU regulations introduce specific guidelines for students who find themselves facing a scheduling conflict between two subjects in the same session on the third and fourth days of the exam period. The protocol establishes that the student will take the subject listed earlier in the official schedule first. The second conflicting subject will be postponed to the extraordinary reserve session, scheduled for Friday, June 5th, starting at 15:30 p.m. This organizational measure is critical to safeguarding the access rights of students seeking to improve their admission score by combining technical and humanities specializations.
The regulatory framework for the 2026 University Entrance Exams (PAU) offers more flexibility for students taking the exams solely to improve their average grades from previous years. The organizing committee's observations clarify that students registered only for the Optional Phase to be examined in a single foreign language must attend the session on Wednesday, June 3rd at 11:30 a.m. Furthermore, the exam director reminds students that they are not required to take all optional subjects validated in their initial registration, allowing them to drop subjects at the last minute to focus their efforts on the degrees with the highest cut-off scores in the Canary Islands university district.
