The Crime Statistics Report for the fourth quarter of 2025, published by the Ministry of the Interior, reveals that San Bartolomé de Tirajana ended the year with an increase in the volume of criminal offenses. The statistical trend reflects a disparate pattern between traditional crime, which is experiencing a general resurgence, and cybercrime, which is bucking the trend of rampant growth.
The snapshot of conventional crime, that linked to physical offenses and public safety violations, has the greatest impact on the municipality's final tally. Reported incidents in this category rose from 4.037 infractions in 2024 to a total of 4.543 documented cases in 2025. The increase in criminal activity on the streets and in businesses of the area is heavily influenced by the rise in traditional categories such as theft, which climbed from 1.733 cases to 2.002 offenses annually. Similarly, investigations into drug trafficking nearly doubled, with 71 police interventions compared to 38 in the previous period.
The most sensitive indicator is found in crimes against sexual freedom, which reveal a worrying trend. While the overall number of offenses against sexual freedom decreased from 49 to 36 cases in the municipality, sexual assaults involving penetration experienced a critical increase. Police stations in the tourist area processed 12 completed rapes throughout 2025, which is almost double the 7 serious assaults documented in the previous year's report. Conversely, the impact of other types of crimes against sexual freedom and integrity lessened, decreasing from 42 to 24 reported cases.
The financial strain on private property and commercial activity in the southern economic engine has also worsened, according to official statistics. Burglaries in homes, businesses, and other establishments in San Bartolomé de Tirajana rose to 114 incidents, compared to 109 the previous year. This increase directly impacted residential security in the municipality, where break-ins and burglaries in private homes climbed from 59 to 66 incidents reported to law enforcement.
Violent crime on the streets remained relatively stable, with robberies involving violence and intimidation decreasing from 109 to 92 cases. Police stations in the municipality also saw a reduction in vehicle thefts, which fell from 80 to 67 incidents for the year. In the most serious criminal categories, the municipality recorded one homicide or murder, compared to two the previous year, while attempted homicides increased from one to seven. Serious and less serious offenses of assault and affray also showed a notable decrease, dropping from 61 to 51 reported incidents.
Cybercrime, referring to criminal offenses committed on or through digital means, ended the year with 434 cases, reflecting an increase compared to the 347 reported in the previous year. This rise in digital crime was driven almost exclusively by the surge in online scams, which jumped from 299 to 381 reported cases in twelve months. The other cybercrimes reported online saw little change in their impact on the public, rising slightly from 48 to 53 cases.
