The Maspalomas Summer University has organized, for the first time, a course on 'Contemporary Dance', which will be taught by the dancer and choreographer, Violeta Aguilera, from July 1st to 3rd, at the Maspalomas Cultural Center.

Violeta Aguilera Vargas is a dancer, choreographer, teacher, and stage creator with a career linked to contemporary dance, performance, and interdisciplinary projects. Her work reflects proposals where dance engages in dialogue with cultural spaces, institutions, museums, orchestras, festivals, and stage and musical formats.
Throughout her career she has participated, as a dancer and choreographer, in large-format productions and contemporary creation projects in the Canary Islands, collaborating with entities such as the Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra, CLAPSO Stage Productions, Daniel Abreu Company, Mestisay, the Natalia Medina Dance Company, Martín Chirino Foundation, Canary Museum, MAPFRE Canarias Foundation, CajaCanarias Foundation and the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Among her notable works are collaborations with the Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra, including Olivier Messia's 'Quartet for the End of Time' project, in collaboration with the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council. She was also part of the musical 'Another Love Story' by the Natalia Medina Company, alongside the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Municipal Band, and performed at the TEMUDAS Fest International Festival.
She has participated in large-scale shows such as 'César Manrique, The Musical', in addition to her experience as a scholarship dancer in the Canarii Project, alongside the Daniel Abreu and Mestisay Companies. She was a principal dancer in 'Forging Winds', a production by Anatol Yanowsky and Yuri Yanowsky, and participated in the 2020 Dance Company, in works such as 'Atlantic Sound' and 'The Confession'.
As a creator and performer, she has developed choreographic pieces and interventions for cultural and heritage contexts at the Museo Canario, Fundación MAPFRE Canarias, Gabinete Literario, and Fundación CajaCanarias. Her work was recognized with First Prize at the Cayetana Cuyás International Short Film Competition, where she participated as a solo dancer and choreographer.
The Maspalomas Summer University is organized by the Department of Culture of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the Gran Canaria Island Council.
