National Police officers arrested a 50-year-old French citizen on May 22 in Maspalomas, who was subject to a European Arrest Warrant (EAW) issued by the judicial authorities of France for his alleged involvement in a drug trafficking offense.
Police investigations confirmed the validity of the international arrest warrant and also established that the wanted man was in Gran Canaria. According to information provided by French authorities, the man had been tried and convicted in his country for drug trafficking, but was declared a fugitive as his whereabouts were unknown, which is why the corresponding arrest warrant was issued.
Once located in a hotel establishment in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, the agents established a police operation that culminated in his identification and subsequent arrest.
After the competent judicial body of the National Court in charge of managing European Arrest Warrants was informed, the arrested person was brought before the court.
Subsequently, the judicial authority ordered his provisional imprisonment pending completion of the procedures for his extradition to the French authorities.
