The First Deputy Mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Alejandro Marichal, and the Councillor for Urban Planning, Davinia Ramírez, met with the residents of Salinas del Matorral to inform them of the current status of the urban planning process for the neighborhood and to explain the steps that still need to be completed to finalize the procedure.
During the meeting, municipal officials informed residents that the project has now passed the environmental phase following the successful completion of the simplified strategic environmental assessment. The resolution concludes that the minor modification to the General Plan for the development of Salinas del Matorral will not have significant environmental impacts, thus allowing the urban planning process to continue and paving the way for the approval of the planned modification for this area.
The first deputy mayor explained that the process is now entering a crucial phase, with the plan expected to receive initial approval for the modification in the coming months, followed by final approval. “We hope that in the coming months we can submit the modification of the General Plan for Salinas del Matorral for initial approval and that its processing can be completed a few months later,” he stated.
The meeting also served to report on the technical and administrative work carried out in recent years. This included the required sectoral reports from the various competent authorities necessary to continue with the planning of the settlement.
For her part, the Councilor for Urban Planning, Davinia Ramírez, emphasized the importance of maintaining direct communication with residents throughout the entire process. “We know that the residents have been waiting a long time for a solution, and that is why we wanted to explain to them personally where the file stands, what procedures have been completed, and what steps remain to finalize this process,” she stated.
Marichal noted that Salinas del Matorral is part of the work the Urban Planning Department is undertaking to address pending urban planning issues in various areas of the municipality. “We are initiating processes for areas such as Salinas del Matorral, Lomo Los Azules, Lomos Las Cuatro Matas, Isla de Jamaica, El Salobre, and Montaña La Data, among others, because behind every planning modification there are residents who have been waiting far too long for a solution. For years, many of these processes remained stalled, and our priority has been to get them moving again and develop solutions that will allow us to organize population centers, improve the environments where residents live, and respond to long-standing demands from the community,” Marichal concluded.
The meeting also allowed for the resolution of doubts and a detailed explanation of the administrative process followed to date, as well as the pending steps to complete a procedure that will provide Salinas del Matorral with an urban planning framework adapted to the current reality of the population center.
