A woman in her 50s was airlifted by medical helicopter after suffering a near-drowning episode with cardiorespiratory arrest on Maspalomas beach in San Bartolomé de Tirajana.
The events occurred this Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at around 15:45 p.m., when the Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES) 112 received a call from the Red Cross surveillance and rescue service alerting that a bather was in serious condition after being rescued from the water.
Lifeguards began CPR on the beach until paramedics from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) arrived. They continued with advanced life support and successfully reversed the cardiac arrest. Once stabilized, the woman was airlifted in critical condition by helicopter to the University Hospital of Gran Canaria.
During the operation, members of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana Fire and Rescue Service also participated, along with agents from the National Police, Local Police and members of Civil Protection, who collaborated in the operation deployed in the area.
