The first deputy mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Alejandro Marichal, and the councilor for Citizen Participation, Ruyma Cardoso, held a working meeting with the deputy minister of Administrations and Transparency of the Government of the Canary Islands, Antonio Llorens de la Cruz, and the general director of Transparency and Citizen Participation, Carmen Delia Alberto Gómez, to coordinate the launch of the Citizenship Laboratory in El Patronato, an initiative that will be developed thanks to a grant awarded by the regional government.
The project aims to transform El Patronato into a space for active participation where residents can identify needs, put forward proposals and develop collective solutions to improve their environment through collaborative and community-building processes.
Alejandro Marichal emphasized that “this project represents a new way of building the municipality, giving residents a voice so they can actively participate in finding solutions to the challenges in their community. We want the Board of Trustees to be an example of citizen participation and collaboration between government and the public.”
For her part, Ruyma Cardoso pointed out that “the launch of this laboratory will allow the creation of spaces for meeting and shared work where residents' proposals can be transformed into concrete initiatives to improve the quality of life in the neighborhood.”
During the meeting, the Deputy Minister of Administration and Transparency, Antonio Llorens de la Cruz, explained that the objective of the project is to promote innovative solutions to the everyday challenges of the neighborhood through creative and collaborative processes that allow the needs detected by the citizens to be transformed into shared and sustainable responses.
Likewise, the Director General of Transparency and Citizen Participation, Carmen Delia Alberto Gómez, highlighted that the citizenship laboratories contribute to creating local networks of collaboration between neighbors, associations and public administrations, generating a solid basis for collective action and the development of community projects with an impact on the territory.
The Citizenship Laboratory will be developed at El Patronato and includes different phases of work that will include the diagnosis of the needs of the neighborhood, the identification of key agents, the opening of calls for the presentation of citizen proposals and the creation of collaborative working groups to develop the selected projects.
The initiative will create spaces for meeting, experimentation, and collective creation, where citizens will play a leading role in developing solutions for their community. Furthermore, the process will culminate in a public presentation of the results and the preparation of a final report that will document the work carried out and the lessons learned during the project.
The meeting held between both administrations served to coordinate the next steps of this initiative and strengthen the institutional collaboration necessary for its implementation in the municipality.
