The City Council illuminates the roundabouts on Avenida Alejandro del Castillo in blue to support the initiative of associations for people with hearing disabilities or deafblindness
This Sunday, the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council will illuminate the roundabouts on Avenida Alejandro del Castillo in San Fernando de Maspalomas in turquoise to support the commemoration of the National Day of Spanish Sign Languages.
With this lighting initiative, the City Council is collaborating once again with the actions that will be carried out throughout Spain under the slogan 'Sign language for a thousand reasons', for the recognition and promotion of the use of sign languages beyond domestic, educational or socio-health areas.
The blue lighting of the La Tunera, Los Tulipanes and El Portón roundabouts on Avenida Alejandro del Castillo aims to make it clear to the residents of the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana and its visitors that sign languages are fundamental in the daily lives of deaf, hard-of-hearing or deafblind people.
This marks the third consecutive year that the city council, presided over by Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez Sánchez, has undertaken this initiative, urged by the Federation of Associations of Deaf People of the Canary Islands (Fasican), to promote sign languages and respect for diversity.
As happened last year, the deputy mayor and councilor responsible for the Education and Culture area, Elena Álamo Vega, has once again assumed the role of institutional spokesperson for the campaign in this municipality and has recorded the slogan message 'Sign language for a thousand reasons' with which the Federation is promoting this commemoration.
Elena Álamo emphasizes that one of the objectives of this initiative is also to promote social participation, which is why she invites everyone who wants to collaborate with the campaign to record the same slogan and spread it through their social networks to try to turn it into a viral visual message.
