The tour operator Travelplan, a wholesale brand integrated into the structure of the Ávoris Corporación Empresarial group, has completed a strategic commercial promotion operation in the archipelago with the aim of consolidating sales from the national market towards the south of Gran Canaria together with the Gran Canaria Tourism Board.
The initiative, carried out jointly with the group's airline division's tour operator, Air Europa, and the Gran Canaria Tourism Board, brought a group of dozens of travel agents from mainland Spain to the island for a four-day familiarization trip (fam trip). This corporate move aims to boost direct sales of accommodation in southern Spain at a time when brick-and-mortar travel agencies are acting as a buffer against the volatility of traditional online sales.
The state-run tourism agency team has completed a technical inspection program covering the most competitive types of accommodation on the island's tourism inventory, with a particular focus on portfolios of properties renovated to sustainability standards. The travel agents established their operational bases in key resorts in the San Bartolomé de Tirajana and Mogán tourist areas, analyzing the hotel services offered by the Lopesan Costa Meloneras Resort, Spa & Casino, among others. The technical inspection route also included urban infrastructure and active tourism facilities in southern Gran Canaria.
The familiarization itinerary was designed to immerse travel agents in the landscapes that form the core of the island's holiday offerings, combining exclusive visits to Playa del Inglés, the Mogán Port marina, and the Puerto Rico coastline. These field trips were complemented by guided tours of the protected perimeter of the Maspalomas Dunes Special Nature Reserve, allowing travel agents to observe the levels of environmental conservation and the state of public services—two factors that domestic consumers consider paramount in their purchasing decisions.
Ávoris's work agenda in the south of the island has prioritized the technical training of its partners by organizing a sector-specific training forum with the management team of Gran Canaria Tourism. This working session detailed the flight and accommodation packages designed by Travelplan for the current summer season, analyzing the number of seats scheduled by Air Europa to Gando Airport and the direct booking software tools available to agencies. The wholesaler's representatives emphasize that this type of in-person training immediately increases the destination's recommendation rate at the point of sale, providing the agency network with solid sales arguments to attract spending from Spanish families and the corporate segment.
