A drug trafficking network has been dismantled after the seizure of more than 7.500 kilos of hashish in the Canary Islands.

The investigation began in late 2025, when specialized units from both the National Police and the Civil Guard (Guardia Civil) They launched independent investigations into one of the most active drug traffickers in the Canary Islands. Upon discovering that both investigations shared the same objectives, the two agencies joined forces in a joint operation that lasted eight months, thus strengthening the fight against illegal drug trafficking in Spain.

 

The investigation uncovered a complex criminal network operating throughout the Canary Islands archipelago with direct connections to the Iberian Peninsula, North Africa, and South America. The agents also confirmed that the group had a significant maritime infrastructure to introduce large illegal shipments into the Canary Islands and subsequently distribute them to different points in the national territory.

 

During the course of the investigation, the Security Forces carried out five major operations on the islands of Tenerife, Gran Canaria y LanzaroteThey managed to seize more than 7.500 kilos of hashish. Of the total seized, approximately 5.800 kilos were located in Gran Canaria, more than 800 kilos in Tenerife, and nearly 1.000 kilos in Lanzarote.

 

The most notable performance took place during the early hours of last May 11th in the zone of Sardinia del NorteIn Gran Canaria, investigators detected the arrival of an inflatable boat loaded with bales of hashish and deployed a device that allowed them to intercept the shipment as it was being unloaded on the coast.

 

In this operation, nine people were arrested and more than 3.000 additional kilos were seized, as well as the vessel used for the illicit transport.

 

 

 

The final phase of the operation culminated in six house searches carried out in both Gran Canaria and Málaga. During these operations, officers located more than €250.000 in cash, a handgun with a large quantity of ammunition, several bladed weapons, and various documents relevant to the police investigation.

 

The detainees have been brought before a judge as alleged perpetrators of crimes related to illegal drug trafficking and membership in a criminal organization. The competent court ordered the provisional imprisonment of sixteen of those involved.
