The meeting, held at the Perchel Beach Club, brought together representatives of MTS, World2Meet (W2M), Viajes Olimpia, Jumbo Tours, Canaria Travel Experience, Alltours, DTS and Ving, in a working session in which the main projects that are transforming Maspalomas Costa Canaria were presented, as well as the development and investment opportunities that are opening up for the tourism sector in the coming years.
During the meeting, the main progress achieved in the area of tourism renovation, public investment, granting of urban planning licenses and strategic planning, as well as the new growth opportunities that open up for the destination after the final approval of the urban planning modification of Meloneras 2A.
The strategy developed by these areas has made it possible to mobilize 188,2 million euros in public and private investments, of which 166,1 million correspond to projects promoted by the private sector for the renovation and modernization of the accommodation facility, While others 22,1 million euros are allocated to public actions for the improvement of the tourist area.
To this figure are added the more than 700 millones de euros of potential investment that can be developed thanks to the urban planning unlock of Meloneras 2A, which places the economic impact associated with the transformation of Maspalomas Costa Canaria above the 888 millones de euros.
Alejandro Marichal highlighted that the results presented reflect the work done to transform urban planning management into a tool at the service of the municipality's tourism competitiveness.
“When we came into government, we found stalled projects, blocked investments, and opportunities that had been years in the making. Today, we can present the tourism sector with concrete results, real investments, and a growth outlook that reinforces Maspalomas Costa Canaria’s position as one of Europe’s leading destinations,” he stated.
Among the main private investments, the construction of a new hotel stands out. five-star hotel promoted by Lopesan, with an investment exceeding 61 million; the action promoted for the construction of the shopping center on the former plot Island Travel, with 48,6 million; the expansion of the Hotel Villa del Conde with 16,4 million; and various projects modernization projects distributed throughout Playa del Inglés, San Agustín y Meloneras.
For its part, public investment has made it possible to implement strategic actions to improve the destination, including:
- The renovation of the Municipal Market,
- The recovery of the Oasis Palm Grove,
- The transformation of the Barranco environment from Maspalomas,
- Improved accessibility to beaches,
- The rehabilitation of seafront promenades,
- And implementation of new sustainable mobility infrastructure.

We are renovating public spaces, improving access, restoring emblematic environments, and raising the quality of the destination. Every action we undertake contributes to strengthening the image of Maspalomas Costa Canaria in international markets and offering a more competitive, sustainable, and attractive experience to both our visitors and residents.”
One of the central issues at the meeting was the unblocking of the Meloneras 2A urban development project, considered one of the most significant milestones for the municipality in recent decades. Final approval of this modification ends more than twenty years of urban planning deadlock and allows for the development of over 300.000 square meters of public land designated for sports, educational, and social-health facilities, green spaces, parking, and new road infrastructure.
Furthermore, the new regulations facilitate independent project development through the segregation of plots, providing greater legal certainty and investment capacity.
According to data provided by tour operators, Meloneras 2A will unlock more than 700 million euros in potential private investment linked to new residential tourism developments, as well as the creation of 3.600 tourist beds, 1.800 rooms, 1.500 jobs during the construction phase, and 2.400 permanent jobs once the planned projects are completed.
Marichal highlighted the final approval of Meloneras 2A, which "not only resolves an urban planning situation inherited for more than twenty years but also opens a new stage of municipal development, generating investment opportunities, employment, and improved public services."
With this meeting, the Urban Planning and Tourism departments conveyed a message of confidence to the tourism sector based on concrete facts: more investment, more renovation, more public space, quality urban planning capable of continuing to boost Maspalomas Costa Canaria's leadership in key international tourist markets.
