El Cabildo of Gran Canaria, through the Ministry of Environment, Climate, Energy and Knowledge, has proceeded to scientific advice for the transfer of kiosk no. 4, located in English beach, as part of the actions promoted within the Masdunas project for Renaturalization and recovery of the Maspalomas Dunes Special Nature Reserve.
The kiosk has been relocated 80 meters to the north, with the aim of favoring the wind dynamics and the transport of sand on the beachthus preventing alterations in the natural movement of sediments.

The restoration and conservation of the Maspalomas Dunes requires continuous adaptation to the effects of climate change and rising sea levels, which forces us to make continuous modifications to the location of beach elements in order to favor the conservation of this landscape enclave, he said.
The technical studies carried out during the last few years They have made it possible to detect that the current location of certain elements such as hammocks, containers or kiosks produce negative effects on the natural environment, weakening the dune front in the face of high tides and storms, as well as harming the regeneration of vegetation.
El Master Plan The Special Nature Reserve of the Maspalomas Dunes establishes the need to improve the management of beach facilities and their design, as well as their movement from time to time.
This advisory action has been made possible thanks to the collaboration between the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, through the Masdunas project, and the City Council of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, together with the technical and operational teams responsible for the execution of the transfer of the beach cleaning service.
Masdunas Project
The Masdunas project was initiated by the Gran Canaria Island Council in 2018 with the aim of protecting this natural ecosystem that has suffered a process of severe degradation during the last decades, preserving its environmental values and its importance as an attraction for Canary Island residents and tourism.
Thanks to the efforts made by the Island Institution, 85% of the degraded surface of the dune front has been recovered and the number of native vegetation specimens has increased, which contribute to maintaining the environment of Maspalomas.
This project, along with other initiatives such as the Tourism Sustainability Plan in Destination (PSTD), Impulsa Maspalomas and the work carried out by the Technical Office, contributes to the environmental restoration of the natural environment of Maspalomas.
