The action, driven by the Housing Department of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council in collaboration with Gran Canaria Housing Consortium, covers a total of 11 residential blocksThe main objective is to improve the structural safety, the universal accessibility and the general conservation conditions, also contributing to the improvement of the urban environment and raising the quality of life for all residents.
Direct benefits for residents and the residential environment
Alejandro Marichal emphasized that “this crucial project for Castillo del Romeral is entering its final stages. The works are already 90% complete and will be finished next August, improving accessibility, safety, and conservation for the direct benefit of over one hundred families.”
The first deputy mayor also emphasized that “comprehensive rehabilitation is a fundamental tool for improving the quality of life for residents. It's not just about renovating buildings, but also about dignifying neighborhoods, creating more accessible and safer environments, and responding to real needs.”
This project is an essential part of the municipal strategic plan for the rehabilitation of residential properties, promoted by the City Council. Similar projects are currently underway in developments such as La Paz, Grupo IFA, Santa Águeda, Castillo del Romeral, and Montaña Clara. These actions directly benefit more than 2.000 registered residents in these residential areas. As Marichal stated: “We are implementing actions that improve accessibility, safety and quality for thousands because housing is an absolute priority in our public administration.”
For her part, Lucía Jiménez highlighted that the works will allow the modernization of an urbanization built in 1983 that required a comprehensive intervention to guarantee better housing conditions and universal accessibility to its residents.
Main improvements made in the renovated homes
Among the most relevant actions are:
- Structural repair and sanitation.
- Complete facade rehabilitation.
- Professional waterproofing of roofs.
- Construction and comprehensive adaptation with accessible ramps.
- Modern installation, both doors and railings are new.
- Efficient renovation of common lighting using LED technology.
- Significant improvement in outdoor spaces with accessible routes and artistic incorporation through decorative murals representing coastal scenes typical of the Romeral Castle.
Currently, only a few finishing touches on facades remain to complete this project, which has a budget of 553.000 euros; so far, more than 460.000 euros have already been certified as effectively executed in completed work.
With this comprehensive action, the Council continues to move firmly towards projects aimed at improving the entire municipal residential park, thus reinforcing urban safety, universal accessibility and general quality within the different municipal centers belonging to San Bartolomé de Tirajana (Gran Canaria).
