The Canary Islands Government's Directorate General of Energy has issued a final resolution approving the justification and corresponding payment of a subsidy to the San Agustín Taxi Drivers' Cooperative. The funds are earmarked directly for the implementation of electric vehicles and fast-charging infrastructure in the local taxi sector.
The payment order to the cooperative in southern Gran Canaria has been processed after the Energy Transition Projects Unit meticulously validated the required supporting documentation stipulated in the grant's regulations. The technical payment proposal was initially approved by the unit's director, Raquel Moreno de la Rosa, confirming compliance with the energy sustainability objectives set by Europe.
The authorized transfer to the San Agustín drivers' association totals €34.712,69, an amount exclusively allocated under Line 2 of the grant program. The funds assigned to this specific case come from the European funding instrument 'Next Generation EU', channeled through the State Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and coordinated under the umbrella of the Sustainable Energy Strategy for the Canary Islands.
The administrative process culminating in this payment has undergone a complex technical procedure since its inception. The public call for proposals was originally launched through Order 62/2024 of March 18, establishing a very ambitious initial budget of €15 million to incentivize the electrification of taxi fleets. However, the needs of the regional government department necessitated a subsequent restructuring of public funds through Order 193/2024 of August 22.
This legal amendment approved a substantial reduction in the initially allocated budget with the express purpose of diverting the surplus funds to another grant program that required urgent financing. Following this significant budget cut, the aid for the taxi sector in the archipelago was set at a final ceiling of €2.055.667,64. Within the framework of this revised budget, the regional government issued Resolution 608/2025 of August 7, definitively granting subsidies to a total of 95 applications that met the technical requirements.
The final ratification of the administrative document is the responsibility of the Director General of Energy of the Government of the Canary Islands, Alberto Hernández Suárez, acting by express delegation of authority from the Minister of Ecological Transition and Energy. The digital signatures integrated into the autonomous community's electronic system certify that the file was officially registered under Resolution number 999/2026 in volume 1, book 2497 of the Canary Islands administration. With this payment, the taxi drivers of San Agustín obtain the necessary financial backing to amortize the investments made in the green renewal of their work vehicles.
