The Civil Guard seizes more than 1.200 counterfeit 2026 World Cup kits in southeastern Gran Canaria

The Civil Guard has seized 1.269 counterfeit sports kits related to teams participating in the 2026 FIFA World Cup during two operations carried out in Ingenio and Telde. The estimated value of the seized goods exceeds €97.000, and the case has been referred to the duty magistrate in Telde.

 

The investigations were developed by the Fiscal and Border Patrol (PAFIF) of the Civil Guard of Vecindario Following a complaint filed by an authorized representative of a sports organization, who alerted authorities to the possible sale of clothing that illegally reproduced protected trademarks and logos, agents located various points of sale and verified the authenticity of the products offered.

 

The first intervention took place on 18 June in a commercial establishment of Reedbedin the municipality of Ingenio. There they were apprehended 529 sports garments, including t-shirts and trousers, with an estimated value of 36.500 EurosThe business owner has been investigated as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against industrial property, and all merchandise has been withdrawn from sale and placed at the disposal of the court.

 

The investigation continued until a second street vending point was located in Telde, where the 21 June the agents intervened in other 740 counterfeit sports kits valued at 61.375 EurosThe items included shirts and shorts from national teams such as Spain, Germany, Argentina, England and Portugal, among others.

 

In total, the two operations resulted in the removal of 1.269 counterfeit sports garments from the market, with an estimated value exceeding €97.000. The Civil Guard reiterates that these types of operations aim to protect industrial property rights, combat illegal trade, and offer greater guarantees to both consumers and affected brands. The case file has been sent to the duty magistrate in Telde, who will continue the investigation to determine the corresponding responsibilities.
