The National Police have concluded a year-long investigation by dismantling a criminal organization that distributed drugs across several islands. The operation resulted in seven arrests, six searches, and the seizure of hashish, cocaine, weapons, cash, and vehicles.
The operation included searches in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, as well as Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Ingenio, and led to the dismantling of an organization dedicated to drug trafficking in the Canary Islands.
The National Police have dismantled a criminal organization in Gran Canaria allegedly dedicated to drug trafficking , which operated on various islands in the archipelago. Operation Tijuana , carried out over a year by agents from the Central Drug and Organized Crime Unit (UDYCO) and the Las Palmas UDYCO , has resulted in the arrest of seven people , including a local police officer from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria , and the seizure of more than 300 kilograms of hashish , as well as cocaine , firearms , and a significant logistical infrastructure used for the criminal activity.
According to the investigation, the organization was highly structured and allegedly led by a known police target nicknamed “JUKE ,” who has been under investigation for years for his alleged ability to import and distribute large quantities of hashish and cocaine in the Canary Islands. Investigators also place the group within the network of other major drug traffickers already in custody and with connections to international criminal organizations, including individuals linked to the so-called Balkan Cartel.
The operation was launched after detecting a distribution operation in which the suspects were transporting more than 300 kilos of hashish in a rented van to hinder their detection. Following this, six searches were carried out at properties and premises in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria , Ingenio , and San Bartolomé de Tirajana , where agents located, in addition to the hashish, two kilograms of cocaine, two handguns, €55.000 in cash, eight vehicles, a semi-rigid boat, numerous mobile phones, and documentation related to the investigated activity.
The investigation remains open under the direction of the competent judicial authority, and further actions stemming from the analysis of the seized evidence are not ruled out. Once the police investigation is complete, the detainees will be brought before a judge. The National Police emphasize that they will continue to intensify their fight against organizations that use the Canary Islands as a strategic location for the storage and distribution of narcotics.
