SPAR Gran Canaria renews, for the fourth consecutive year , its sponsorship of Club Interisleta Gran Canaria , a collaboration that aims to support sport among people with intellectual disabilities.
This initiative is part of SPAR Gran Canaria 's commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles and equal opportunities through sport.
The Director of Corporate Social Responsibility and Communication , Yubi Cisneros , highlighted that sport is a good tool to build an increasingly inclusive future and, from SPAR Gran Canaria , "we are proud to be an active part of this project, which transforms lives through physical activity . "
The programs focus on adapted and inclusive sports . Their aim is to teach and promote futsal not from a perspective of high competition and tactical demands, but as a recreational, educational, and social integration tool.
It is designed for young people and adults (generally over 16 years old) with functional diversity or intellectual disability (such as cerebral palsy, brain damage or Down syndrome).
The playful component ( play therapy and pre-sports games ) is used so that participants can enjoy physical activity without the pressure of winning or losing, prioritizing fun and the acquisition of motor and psychomotor skills.
Beyond exercise, the project seeks to improve self-esteem, promote teamwork, create healthy habits and allow players to socialize and live unique experiences (such as participating in national tournaments or inter-island meetings).
The sports director for the Disability area, Darío Santana , affirmed that the support of SPAR Gran Canaria is “fundamental” for the club to “continue its work and activities .” He explained that Club Interisleta Gran Canaria develops “a disability project very focused on travel and participation in competitions ,” an activity that requires significant resources.
