The Veneguera Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) is entering a critical transformation phase. This facility, a key component of the municipality's water management, is undergoing a program of adaptation and technical improvements designed to correct the deterioration accumulated after years of service. The project, with a budget of €317.449,41, aims to restore the plant to full operational capacity, as it currently only has one of its two treatment lines functioning.
The technical assessment reveals structural deficiencies that compromise the system's efficiency. The work plan includes the renovation of the control building and a complete overhaul of the pretreatment line. Among the most urgent actions is the commissioning of the second aeration tank and the second sedimentation tank, essential elements for balancing the treatment loads and ensuring the quality of the treated water. The project also includes the renovation of the drying beds, the repair of retaining walls, and the replacement of metalwork using carbon steel to ensure the infrastructure's durability.
The technical upgrade encompasses logistical and security aspects. The project replaces conventional lighting with LED technology and reinforces the concrete pillar at the main entrance to the site. These improvements not only correct operational issues but also raise safety and energy efficiency standards in the area around El Pedregal Street. The execution period has been set at five months from the signing of the site handover report, with a two-year warranty period established after the completion of the works.
The project's technical complexity has dictated that the contract be managed as a single, indivisible technical unit. Coordination of all elements is essential for the restoration's success; therefore, the project has not been divided into lots to avoid operational disruptions during the process. The technical expertise required for the tender includes the requirement of a site manager with a university degree or technical qualification and a minimum of three years' experience in hydraulic infrastructure, reflecting the level of specialization necessary to guarantee the proper execution of the work.
Compliance with occupational risk prevention regulations is another key pillar of this initiative. The winning bidder will be required to appoint a qualified health and safety technician to ensure that the protocols established during construction protect personnel and the environment. This commitment is reinforced by a special social condition attached to the contract, under penalty of financial sanctions for any breach.
The investment, part of the Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN) financing framework, represents a commitment to the sustainability of the entire water cycle in the south of the island. With this deployment of resources, the Veneguera Wastewater Treatment Plant is preparing to meet current treatment demands, eliminating the shortcomings that have limited its capacity recently. Once the work is complete, the facility will regain full functionality, ensuring efficient and safe management of water resources in the municipality of Mogán.
