Two men were seriously injured on Thursday in a collision between a van and a car on the GC-1 highway, southbound, near the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana. The accident prompted a large emergency response and caused traffic jams on the main access road to southern Gran Canaria.
The accident occurred at 2:44 p.m. on Thursday, July 16 , when the Canary Islands Government's Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES) 1-1-14 received an alert reporting a collision between a van and a car on the GC-1 highway, southbound , within the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana . Emergency resources were immediately dispatched to the scene.
The Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) attended to the two injured occupants. A 36-year-old man , with multiple serious injuries, was stabilized and transferred by ambulance to the University Hospital of Gran Canaria . The second injured man, also with multiple serious contusions, was taken by basic life support ambulance to Hospiten Roca.
Firefighters from the San Bartolomé de Tirajana Fire and Rescue Service also participated in the operation , assisting the medical personnel, while the road maintenance service cleaned the roadway. The Civil Guard directed traffic in the area , where delays were reported, and prepared the corresponding report to clarify the circumstances of the accident.
