The arrested woman, a young tourist, allegedly enjoyed eleven nights at a hotel in southern Gran Canaria with two other family members without paying the bill, which amounted to more than €2.400.
The rapid coordination between the Maspalomas Police Station and the Airport Border Post allowed for his location and arrest before he could leave the island.
The National Police have arrested a young woman of foreign origin as the alleged perpetrator of a fraud after she supposedly left a hotel establishment located in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana , on the island of Gran Canaria , without paying for a stay valued at 2.483 euros.
Police investigation following hotel complaint
The investigation began after hotel officials filed a complaint reporting that a family consisting of two adults and a child had left the premises after staying eleven nights on an all-inclusive basis without paying the corresponding bill.
Fraudulent reservation and failed payment method
According to the complaint, the reservation was made through the establishment's website, with a bank card provided as a guarantee. However, when attempting to process the payment at the end of the stay, the payment method failed to complete the transaction.
The hotel staff tried on several occasions to contact the person who made the reservation to settle the outstanding financial situation.
Although he initially stated his intention to make the payment, claiming problems accessing his bank card from the airport, he eventually ceased all communication and did not pay the amount owed.
Location and arrest in Gran Canaria
After learning of the reported incident, National Police officers set up a special operation that led to the identification of the alleged perpetrator at the Gran Canaria Airport Border Post. The young woman was arrested before leaving the Canary Island.
Once the arrest was made and the appropriate legal procedures carried out, she was transferred to the National Police Station of Maspalomas to carry out the corresponding proceedings and was subsequently placed at the disposal of the court.
