Nearly one hundred boys and girls participated in the closing day of a Clinic that has once again established itself as one of the major events of summer sports in the Canary Islands thanks to the support of the Gran Canaria Island Council, the Island Sports Institute, the Gran Canaria Island Basketball Federation and the commitment of Canaluz
The 11th Canaluz Summer Basketball Clinic, organized by the Gran Canaria Basketball Veterans Association , came to a close this Thursday, marking a memorable event for all its participants. The Pepe Armas courts in Siete Palmas hosted a final day filled with excitement, camaraderie, and fun, where nearly one hundred boys and girls enjoyed the eagerly awaited 'Canaluz Challenge' before receiving their diplomas, medals, and trophies in a true celebration of basketball.
Under the sporting direction and leadership of Canaluz ambassador and Canary Islands basketball legend Carmelo Cabrera, the Clinic has once again become a space for learning, camaraderie, and the transmission of values, where sports training has always gone hand in hand with education, respect, and teamwork. His daily involvement, along with the team of coaches and instructors, has been one of the cornerstones of the success of this eleventh edition.
The session began with the 'Canaluz Challenge,' a challenge designed to test the agility, coordination, speed, technical skill, and accuracy of the young players through various dribbling, passing, and shooting drills. Divided into age categories, the participants completed a circuit of tests using the characteristic 'Canaluz Challenge' cubes, located at different points in the area under the board, accumulating points in an atmosphere of healthy competition and camaraderie.
The best times and scores were recognized with the corresponding trophies, although the real prize was once again the participation and the atmosphere experienced throughout the day.
The closing ceremony transformed into a true collective celebration where players, coaches, instructors, referees, parents, and family members shared the spotlight in an unforgettable finale. Applause, group photos, and the awarding of diplomas and medals brought to a close an edition that once again stood out for the quality of its organization and for a sporting model based on training, camaraderie, and values.

During these days, the Canaluz Clinic has demonstrated, once again, that basketball can be an extraordinary educational and social integration tool. Open to all of Canarian society, without distinction, the event has once again brought together young players of different ages and levels with a common goal: to learn, socialize, and enjoy the sport.
The closing day also included a visit from the new president of the Gran Canaria Island Basketball Federation , Pedro Domínguez, who wanted to personally support an initiative that he defined as "one of the best clinics in the Canary Islands", especially highlighting its popular, inclusive character and the extraordinary quality of the human team that makes it possible year after year.
Domínguez highlighted the altruistic work carried out by the monitors, coaches and collaborators who participate voluntarily in this initiative, as well as the high technical level of the program developed throughout the week, in which prominent figures of Spanish basketball also participated, such as the international referee Paco Araña, in charge of sharing with the young players an enriching session on rules, refereeing and sporting values.
The Gran Canaria Basketball Veterans Association would like to expressly thank the Gran Canaria Island Basketball Federation for their close collaboration, whose support has contributed to further raising the sporting level of the Clinic, as well as the ongoing support of the Gran Canaria Island Council and the Gran Canaria Island Sports Institute, institutions that continue to support an activity that is fully established within the island's summer sports calendar.
The organization also highlighted the commitment of Canaluz, the main sponsor of the Clinic, whose involvement once again demonstrates a firm commitment to grassroots sport, values education and the development of initiatives that bring basketball closer to the entire Canary Islands society.
At the end of the closing ceremony, Carmelo Cabrera wanted to thank all the participants for their behavior and enthusiasm and emphasized the spirit that defines this project:
"The most important thing isn't the baskets or the trophies. What's truly important is that these boys and girls leave having learned to share, to respect their teammates, to listen to their coaches, and to enjoy basketball. That's the greatest success of this Clinic and the reason why we've continued working with the same enthusiasm for eleven years."
The Canaluz ambassador also expressed his gratitude to the families, the extraordinary team of monitors, coaches, referees and volunteers, as well as to all the entities that make this initiative possible, highlighting especially the commitment of Canaluz, the support of the Gran Canaria Island Council, the Island Sports Institute and the permanent collaboration of the Gran Canaria Island Basketball Federation.
With the satisfaction of a job well done and the unanimous recognition of participants and families, the 11th Canaluz Summer Clinic bids farewell to an edition that has once again exceeded expectations in terms of organization, participation and quality, setting the bar very high for next summer and reaffirming itself as one of the major events in youth basketball in the Canary Islands.
