The forest fire that broke out this Thursday in the Cazadores area, in the midlands of Telde, has been stabilized thanks to the extensive deployment of air and ground resources. The operation has managed to halt the spread of the flames without the need to evacuate homes, although the fire remains uncontrolled and firefighting efforts will continue throughout the night.
The Gran Canaria Island Council and the Telde City Council confirmed at 19:36 p.m. that the fire had been stabilized following the rapid intervention of the emergency services . The favorable evolution of the fire allowed them to contain its advance on one of the days of greatest risk due to high temperatures , wind, and dry vegetation.
Those in charge of the operation explained that the fire did not present a continuous front, but rather several scattered hotspots aligned along the route of a power line between Las Breñas and the Cazadores area . This circumstance required simultaneous action on different points, but the immediate response prevented a larger spread and ruled out, for the time being, any evacuations of homes.
Up to six aircraft from the Canary Islands Government and the Gran Canaria Island Council were involved in extinguishing the fire , taking advantage of the last hours of daylight to make continuous water drops. With nightfall, the operation was handed over to the ground crews of the Forest Fire Operations Unit (UOFF) , the Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium , firefighters from the Telde fire station, and Civil Protection, who will continue with mopping up, mopping up, and securing the perimeter.
The President of the Canary Islands Government, Fernando Clavijo , conveyed to the Mayor of Telde the full availability of regional resources to assist in extinguishing the fire if necessary. Meanwhile, the GC-130 road remains closed between Cazadores and La Cumbre , and only residents of Cazadores, El Moreno, and La Solana will be permitted access via the La Pasadilla road in justified cases. Authorities continue to urge the public to stay away from the area to facilitate the work of the emergency response team.
