It's not the number itself, but the fact that it impacts wholesale bed bookings and compliance with ESG criteria. The hotel sector in southern Gran Canaria is once again in the news following the publication of a significant labor-related penalty. The General Directorate of Labor has fined Nordotel, SA after the administrative process became final.
The infraction committed, classified as very serious, is typified in article 13.1 of the consolidated text of the Law on Infractions and Sanctions in the Social Order, derived from a file prepared within the framework of the prevention of occupational risks within the scope of the southern island region.
The punitive measure finds its legal basis in Royal Decree 597/2007, of May 4, which regulates the institutional publicity of final administrative sanctions for very serious infringements in matters of occupational safety and health, in accordance with the provisions of state legislation on social order.
According to the official data collected in the sanctioning file number SANREG 014-2026, the affected commercial entity, dedicated to the hotel activity and with registered office located in the Bahía Feliz urbanization of Playa Tarajalillo —in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana—, has been punished with an economic amount that amounts exactly to 49.181,00 euros.
The administrative procedure details that the infraction report that gave rise to this case was initially issued on February 19, 2026, by the competent inspection services. After the appropriate legal procedures were completed and the regulatory deadlines expired, the penalty resolution became legally final on May 25, 2026. With the issuance of this order, signed by the Director General of Labor, José Ramón Rodríguez Albertus, the legal mandate of public transparency regarding penalties imposed on non-compliant companies in the archipelago is fulfilled.
