Nearly 230 seniors from the San Fernando , El Tablero , Castillo del Romeral , and Tunte Day Centers participated this Thursday in the closing ceremony of the 2025-2026 academic year of the Municipal Active Aging Program . This special event, organized by the Senior Citizens Department of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council , marked the end of a year full of activities aimed at promoting well-being , health , and social participation among the municipality's senior citizens.
The event was graced by the presence of the mayor, Alejandro Marichal , and the councilor for the elderly, Dimas Sarmiento , who shared the day with the participants and expressed their gratitude for the involvement of both the users and the technical team and monitors who make the successful development of the program possible.
Recognition of commitment and perseverance in active aging
One of the most moving moments was the presentation of awards to the 27 people who have participated continuously in the sports activities organized by the City Council for the longest period of time. This tribute highlighted their dedication, commitment, and exemplary role within the city's active aging program.

Positive results in the survey on the Municipal Active Aging Program
During the event, the most relevant results obtained from the annual survey conducted among users at the end of the course were presented. The data confirm the resounding success of the Municipal Program:

The program has experienced unprecedented growth during this legislative term, increasing from 300 to 850 participants. New disciplines such as yoga , Pilates , Zumba , cognitive stimulation , digital skills , hiking , and cultural routes have been incorporated , extending to more areas of the municipality. At the same time, the City Council has improved the Day Centers and is promoting strategic projects such as the expansion of the center for people with Alzheimer's in Aldea Blanca and is working on the future Senior Residence to strengthen comprehensive care for the elderly in the municipality.
