The San Bartolomé de Tirajana neighborhood celebrates a week of events from July 27 to August 2, combining tradition, crafts, folklore, the Zanga Tournament, music, and activities for the whole family.
Taidía is preparing for one of the most anticipated weeks of the summer with its festivities in honor of the Virgen del Carmen . From July 27th to August 2nd, 2026 , this neighborhood in San Bartolomé de Tirajana will bring together residents and visitors for a wide-ranging program highlighting popular traditions , community spirit, and Canarian folklore.
The Festival Committee and the La Elipa Neighborhood Association , in collaboration with the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council and the Gran Canaria Island Council , have prepared a program for all ages that includes craft workshops, games, religious events, the traditional Zanga Tournament , a pilgrimage, musical performances, a street party, a cart race and a large popular paella.
A week of festivities and tradition begins
The celebrations begin this Monday, July 27, with the traditional decoration of the streets and the main square.
From Tuesday, July 28th to Thursday, July 30th, between 19:00 PM and 23:00 PM, community spirit will take center stage with participatory traditional workshops. The program includes palm crafts, such as making bags and coasters, as well as weaving, knitting, and crocheting activities taught by local residents and community members.
During these days there will also be children's games and board games aimed at children and young people.
The Zanga Tournament kicks off this weekend
The festivities on Friday, July 31st, will begin at 19:00 PM with a Holy Mass in remembrance of the deceased from the area. At 20:00 PM, the Cadenza Latin Dance Association will perform , followed by one of the most deeply rooted traditions: the Zanga Taidía 2026 Tournament.
The championship will award trophies to the top four pairs and will keep registration open until July 30th. The day will conclude with a musical performance by the duo Yony and Aya.

Pilgrimage and grand festival on Saturday, August 1st
Tradition will take center stage on Saturday the 1st. At 19:00 pm the Pilgrimage in honor of the Virgen del Carmen will begin , accompanied by the songs and folklore of the Achimencey group.
After the pilgrimage, the celebration will continue from 22:00 pm with a big night of dancing and festivities in the square, starring Paco Guedes and the Purpurina group.
The day is presented as one of the central moments of a festival that maintains its popular character and the involvement of the residents of Taidía.
Carts, Solajera and a popular paella to say goodbye to the festivities
The festivities will conclude on Sunday, August 2nd, with a packed program of family activities. Between 11:00 AM and 13:00 PM, there will be a foam party, bouncy castles, and the traditional go-kart race.
From 13:00 to 15:00 the popular Solajera will take place , enlivened by the group ABORA.
The religious events will return at 19:00 p.m. with the Solemn Mass and the subsequent Procession of the Virgin of Carmen through the streets of Taidía, again accompanied by the music of Achimencey.
The grand finale will take place at 21:00 PM with a large paella for everyone. The final night will also include a homemade cake contest, cotton candy, and children's games.
The Taidía festivities once again bring together tradition, devotion and community around the Virgen del Carmen, keeping alive some of the most deeply rooted customs of this area of San Bartolomé de Tirajana and offering a week of encounters for residents and visitors.
