Reopening of access to Veneguera beach after damage from Storm Therese
The access road to Veneguera beach , located between the town of Casas de Veneguera and the GC-200 highway , was reopened this Thursday. This reopening comes after the area suffered significant damage caused by the heavy rains brought by Storm Therese.
The Environment Councillor of the Gran Canaria Island Council , Raúl García Brink , visited the area along with technicians from the Island Water Council. During his visit, he highlighted that after the completion of the necessary work to ensure road safety, access was restored at 12:30 pm , once again allowing both residents and visitors to reach this iconic location in southwest Gran Canaria.
Environmental protection in the Veneguera ravine and Nublo Rural Park
The Gran Canaria Island Council emphasizes that it will continue to maintain strict control over activities within the Veneguera ravine , with the primary objective of protecting this symbolic natural space . This monitoring is essential to preserving one of the most valuable and renowned environments in the Canary Islands archipelago.
In this regard, the island council points out that the only permitted land use in this area is agriculture , an activity traditionally linked to the territory. This area forms part of the Nublo Rural Park , declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO more than twenty years ago, which reinforces its international protection and conservation.
