The board of trustees of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Auditorium and Theatre Foundation officially agreed on Thursday, July 30, 2026, to appoint Zoilo Alemán, former director of Expomeloneras, as the new general manager of the organization, following the successful completion of the corresponding selection process. With this appointment, the institution—jointly established by the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council and the Gran Canaria Island Council—begins a new strategic phase in the management of two of the archipelago's most important cultural and conference venues: the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium / Canary Islands Conference Centre and the Pérez Galdós Theatre.

The new head of the organization takes on the challenge of leading and projecting the activities of both venues toward new horizons of cultural and institutional excellence. Zoilo Alemán brings a solid professional track record of more than twenty-five years of accumulated experience in the fields of tourism management, strategic communication, and the meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) industry.

Among his professional achievements, his long tenure as director of ExpoMeloneras stands out. This venue, located in the south of Gran Canaria, was positioned under his leadership as an undisputed benchmark both nationally and internationally for hosting large events, corporate conventions, and large-scale shows.

From an academic and managerial perspective, Alemán boasts a top-tier multidisciplinary profile. He holds a PhD from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), having earned the highest distinction (summa cum laude) with a doctoral thesis specializing in MICE destination selection.

He also holds a degree in Business Administration, postgraduate studies at Saint Martins College of Art & Design, an Official Master's Degree in Tourism Management and Planning from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), and has completed the prestigious Advanced Management Program at IE Business School. Currently, he is combining his advanced qualifications with a Master's Degree in Public Management from the International University of La Rioja (UNIR), and is a founding member of the Canary Islands MICE Industry Association. These credentials demonstrate his ability to strengthen the synergy between culture, public administration, and conference tourism in the islands.
