One person has died and two others have been seriously injured following a fuel tank explosion at the DISA facilities in the Salinetas Industrial Park (Telde). The accident has mobilized a large emergency response.
The accident occurred shortly after noon while several workers were carrying out work on top of one of the fuel tanks . According to initial reports, the explosion caught the workers by surprise, resulting in one death and two serious injuries . The exact circumstances of the incident remain under investigation.
Following a call to the Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES) 1-1-2 , a major operation was launched, involving personnel from the Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium , several advanced and basic life support ambulances from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) , the Telde Local Police , the National Police , the Canary Islands Police , and Civil Protection . Medical teams set up a triage area while rescue services secured the perimeter.
The Telde City Council has asked residents to avoid the Salinetas Industrial Park to facilitate access for emergency services and keep roads clear. Authorities have also warned of the possibility of gas leaks from the incident, and a large security presence remains in place while the intervention and investigation continue.
