Eight injured after a multiple collision involving a bus on the GC-1 highway in San Bartolomé de Tirajana

 

Eight people sustained injuries of varying severity in a multi-vehicle collision that occurred at 7:50 a.m. on Friday, August 07, 2026, at kilometer marker 53 of the GC-1 highway, within the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana. Several vehicles and a bus were involved in the accident.

 

Two vehicles set on fire and one occupant freed

 

 

The Canary Islands Government's Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES) 112 received an alert about the accident and mobilized emergency resources. Firefighters from the San Bartolomé de Tirajana Fire and Rescue Service extinguished the fire that had broken out in two of the vehicles involved and freed one of the occupants from inside another car.

 

Civil Protection, the Civil Guard, and the Highway Maintenance Service also participated in the operation. Civil Guard officers took charge of the investigation and the preparation of the corresponding report.

 

 

 

 

The SUC mobilizes four ambulances

The Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) dispatched four ambulances—one advanced life support and three basic life support—to attend to the injured. After assessment and treatment at the scene, the eight injured were transferred to hospitals in southern Gran Canaria.

 

Among those injured was a 55-year-old man with moderate multiple injuries, who had to be freed from one of the vehicles by firefighters and was transported by advanced life support ambulance to the San Roque Maspalomas University Hospital. A 64-year-old man with moderate neck pain and chest trauma was also transported by advanced life support to the same hospital.

 

 

 

A 75-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man, both with moderate multiple injuries, were transferred to the San Roque Maspalomas University Hospital. A 39-year-old man and a woman whose age had not been determined at the time of treatment, both with moderate neck pain, were also taken to the same hospital.

 

On the other hand, a 47-year-old woman with mild chest trauma and a 91-year-old woman with moderate trauma to a lower limb were transferred to the Hospiten Roca Hospital.

 

 

 

Extensive emergency response on the GC-1

 

The intervention mobilized in a coordinated manner the Canary Islands Emergency Service, the San Bartolomé de Tirajana Fire Department, the Civil Guard, Civil Protection and Road Maintenance to attend to the injured, control the vehicle fires and secure the accident area.
